Santiago, affectionately known as “Diego,” has completed four novice recognized horse trials and two training recognized horse trials. In 2019, Diego and Adalee won the Junior Novice Area 8 Championship. They were also named AWSSR Ambassadors of 2019. The pair also completed in AECs this year and got the top score in junior novice dressage in their division out of 48 riders.

“What makes Diego so special to me is that he has accomplished so much in such a short time,” Adalee said. “I only got him one year ago and he didn’t know anything. He had to learn everything including how to have a collected canter and get distances in between jumps. He is my first horse that has taken me through my first novice and training recognized events. He truly takes care of me and we have a very strong, trusting bond.”

In 2020, Adalee said she hopes to qualify for AECs again and do training level.

“Diego is one of a kind and has a big heart. Even though we have some bad days, he always makes it up to me when it really matters,” she said. “I love this horse so much and I believe we have a bright future together and many more accomplishments yet to come.”

Adalee said Diego stands out in a crowd because of his amazing jumping ability and that he picks up on new things very quickly. He excels in eventing, especially the cross country and show jumping phases.

“Owning an American Warmblood means to me is to have a quality horse that might not have fancy bloodlines, but has great movements and be an athlete in any discipline,” Adalee said. “Being a member means that I’m supporting a group of people that love their horses and want to show off their performances. I’m not worried about my horse’s pedigree; I just want to have a quality horse that can take me to shows and do outstandingly good with.”

Her advice to other American Warmblood owners? “Have fun with your horse and do the best you can because American Warmbloods can go to the Olympics too!”
