Sky’s Blue Boy x Leave a Message out of Deck of Stars

16.1 hands, 9 years old gelding

Owned by Deborah Martin of Los Alamitos, California

“Sky,” as he is affectionately known, came into Deborah’s life when life seemed at its lowest. After losing her husband, she came across the big, Appendix gelding who desperately needed her too. Now just a little over a year later, Sky and Deborah have many accomplishments in both English and Western dressage!

Sky was the 2018 Champion in English Dressage Introduction Level for the Temecula Valley Chapter of the California Dressage Society for both rated and schooling shows. He was also the 2018 Single Score High Point Champion for that series.

Already this year, Sky has won multiple championships and reserve championships in western and English dressage at a 3-star rated show. He is currently ranked 1st in the Open division, Western Dressage for the State of California and 126th in the WDAA Lifetime Points and Awards Program.

But Sky and Deborah’s story goes beyond just the ribbons.

“Sky is a horse of a lifetime, or one in a million as a friend put it,” Deborah said. “He is very safe to ride, easy to handle at shows and always tries to please, even if he’s not feeling his best.”

During shows, Deborah said Sky loves to show off.

“He is a beautiful, fluid mover, and has an elegant presence in the show ring,” she said. “A spectator recently remarked while watching Sky during a test that ‘he was so beautiful to watch that she couldn’t take her eyes off of him.'”

Deborah is proud to be a member of AWSSR along with Sky.

“I am proud of my country and to have a horse born and raised in the U.S. is very special,” she said. “I’m thrilled to be a member of such a great organization that supports all breeds of horses, ponies and mules that are born and raised in the U.S.”

Her advice to other members? “Please support your local chapters of the disciplines you ride in, especially the ones who recognize the AWSSR in their programs. But most of all, enjoy the journey of riding and/or showing your four-legged companion. It’s a special one.”
